I assuredly do not hate Dan - and as far as I am concerned the people that do have no good reason to.

He is a beautiful, talented man. 

To Downton Abbey & Dan Stevens Fans: It’s time to ignore the haters

I posted earlier a note to Dan Stevens suggesting that he ignore the haters who call him Stovens and try to embarrass him at the stage door, post nasty notes on Tumblr about his acting with the bedpost, post dire predictions about his career, etc. etc.

Now I realize I was talking to myself. It’s time I ignored the haters, and I invite other DA and DS fans to do the same. There is no point in engaging with them about cyber-bullying and how they are setting a bad example for behavior on the Internet. There’s no point in appealing to their decency or kindness or even asking them to grow up and act with some maturity. While some of us question their behavior and motives over here at Tumblr, they are tweeting each other at Twitter and are LMAOing about our objections. This is fun for them - getting us riled up. The best way to respond to them is to ignore them. Then perhaps this tag can become a place to share posts about DA and DS’s current activities and nice pictures.

There is a Buddhist teaching that all of us have various “seeds” planted in us. We all have seeds of love and compassion and kindness and we also have seeds of hatred and resentment and anger. The seed that grows is the one we water. When I read hateful posts and argue with haters, I am watering the seeds of hatred in myself. When I let their anger rile me up and make me angry, I am watering the seeds of anger. I choose to water the seeds of love (which, incidentally, you could say was what Dan did when he said he had “nothing but love.”) I’m not ready to love the haters, as I don’t know them personally. But I sure don’t have to let them control my peace of mind.

I wish everyone in this tag peace, happiness, and a life of ease.
